Uefa president Michel Platini says Messi, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2009, 2010, and 2011, deserves to win it again.
The Barcelona attacker currently shares the record of winning the prize three years in a row with Platini, a former France international.
"Records are there to be beaten. If he wins it again, it's because he deserves it," Platini told Ouest-France.
"He's still only 25 years old and has every opportunity to leave his mark for all eternity."
Fifa and France Football announced the final three candidates for the 2012 award today, with Spain-based trio of Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta the final three.
The Ballon d'Or will be awarded on January 7.

all those players who prefered to be drunk instead of playing football, we could have seen atleast one of them competing with the likes of Messi,Christiano and Iniesta. the likes of Jabu Pule, Steve Lekoelea, Skapi Malatsi and others. Damn those boys could have given Messi a hard time.

I agree with you sir... Jabu Pule was just phenomenal, a wizard, to me he outclassed every SA player, contemporary or old... that was until Heineken took over!
Messi was the Player of the Year in La-Liga...
He also won the Euro Golden boots & Pichichi (La Liga top scorer)....
so, how can he (CR7) be better than him - individually... beside winning the la-liga with Madrid?
