DRC coach LeRoy quits

Claude LeRoy has reportedly quit his post as coach of DR Congo

Posted: 18 January 2013 Time: 09:35 am

Claude LeRoy has reportedly quit his post as coach of DR Congo just three days before his team’s first match of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Frenchman is frustrated at what was termed “poor tournament management”, with the issue of win bonuses apparently central to the disruptions within the camp.

LeRoy handed a letter of resignation to the DR Congo football association on Thursday night, with his assistant, Sebastian Migne, also leaving his post.

It is unclear whether the move is an attempt to force the hand of the association, but it has left the country’s preparations in tatters.

LeRoy is one of the most experienced coaches in African football and would have been appearing in his seventh Nations Cup finals.

With the top two men in the technical team gone, it is unclear now who is leading the side in training leading up to the Ghana clash.

DR Congo are in Group D along with the Black Stars, Mali and Niger and are based in Port Elizabeth.

MXM thats what european coaches do to you if you worship them.We have been preaching of giving local coaches a chance also.Look now,i dont think a citizen of DRC would have done such damage to his country even if the football association had stayed 2 months without paying him because of patriotism

I think I may know this guy from a comedy show. But I honestly believe that lack of good administration in African football, is costing the continent big time. Look at Bafana, Nigeria, Cameroon, DRC, etc. These are the power houses of African football, but the are stumbling down the rankings everytime. WHY?

In theory yes, but practically no. There are many things which are easier said and done theoretically, but practically we talk of easier saidn than done things. Patriotism doesnt pay bills
